Our Fringe event at the SNP conference in Aberdeen takes the form of a lunchtime meeting with the topic:
The War in Syria: a Just War or just a war?
We will be considering the political implications for Scotland of the British involvement in the bombing of Syria, the question of whether war can ever be justified, and what we can do to help the suffering people of Syria.
This very topical political and ethical subject will be dealt with by two speakers.
Jamie Kerr, a solicitor and committee member of Christians For Independence, will discuss the the international legal aspect and the Christian concept of a Just War, while Dr. Nigel Dowler, an Honorary Lecturer in Philosophy and a member of the Religious Society of Friends, will present the Quaker (pacifist) approach, from the viewpoint of an academic with a special interest in the ethics of war and peace and global citizenship.
The event takes place at 12.30 pm on Saturday 9th. June, in room 9 of block A on the third floor of the AECC, but please see the conference app in case there is a last-minute change of venue. A buffet lunch will be served.
So if you are at the SNP conference, please come along and enjoy some lunch while taking part in the discussions.
